DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has challenged MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong to stand in Bagan for the next general election.
“Since (Dr) Wee is really that desperate to debate with me, I am willing to give one exception.
“In the next (general) election, you stand in Bagan. Since the Penang undersea tunnel will be passing through Bagan Ajam.
“We let the people (of Bagan) decide.
“Stand in Bagan and I will debate with you,” Lim challenged Dr Wee in a press conference in Komtar today.
Lim said that the challenge was specially for Dr Wee and not for other candidates.
Lim also questioned why MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was ‘scared’ to debate with him, unlike former MCA president Tan Sri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Earlier during the press conference, Lim told Dr Wee to be the party president first if he wishes to debate with him.
“Let Liow resign if he can’t be the MCA president. If you want to have a debate with me, make sure you are the president first, or even acting president will do.
“Then, I will take up your debate challenge,” Lim said.
On the MCA public forum to be held in Bagan today, Lim said that he would only attend if Dr Wee is the MCA president.
“I have said that I will debate with the MCA president, in fact, I have asked him for a debate.
“I will neither lower and demean my position in the party, nor will I lower and demean the position of the MCA president.
“How can I debate with the number two? Just like in the United States presidential debate.
“The United States presidential nominee debates with the United States presidential nominee of a different party.
“You don’t see a presidential nominee debates with the vice-presidential nominee,” Lim explained.
