The sporty duo that is the US-market Toyota Corolla sedan and Corolla Hatchback are getting a Nightshade Edition for model year 2020. The special edition is already available with the 4Runner, Camry, Highlander and Sienna in Toyota’s North American range.
The 2020 Corolla sedan was introduced earlier this year in the US with a new grade strategy and exterior styling that’s typically more aggressive than what Corollas elsewhere get. The Nightshade Edition for the booted car is based on the SE grade with a CVT, with production starting this fall.
It features blacked-out badging, a black front grille surround and black-painted rocker panels. Also in black are the wing mirror caps (unit is heated and has turn signals), window trim, door handles, rear spoiler and lower diffuser area. Blacked-out 18-inch alloys and a black shark fin antenna complete the Nightshade package. Available colors include Super White, Classic Silver Metallic and Black Sand Pearl.
The 2020 Corolla Hatchback Nightshade Edition is also based on the SE grade with a CVT. Black bits include the 18-inch alloys, lower front rocker, door handles, mirrors caps, side rockers, shark fin antenna, spoiler, rear lower spoiler and rear diffuser.
The headlamps have a black inner frame and the Toyota and SE grade badging are blacked out. Available exterior colors include Super White, Classic Silver Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic, while the interior comes with black fabric.
Away from the Nightshade, there are also some small changes for the MY 2020 Corolla Hatchback. The five-door was one of the first cars in the Toyota family to feature Apple CarPlay, and for the new model year, it will add Android Auto compatibility as a standard feature to all grades. Additionally, SiriusXM All Access Trial, previously an option, will now be standard on both the SE and XSE.
A black roof, which has been available on the latest Camry, is now an option for the Corolla Hatchback, available in conjunction with Blizzard Pearl, Oxide Bronze, Classic Silver Metallic, Smoked Paprika and Blue Flame colours.
The SE grade is also getting an enhanced cargo space option, which removes the spare tyre and lowers the boot floor, adding 170 litres of space. This package will include a tyre repair kit in lieu of the removed spare tyre, and will be available on both the CVT and 6MT SE grades.
