KOTA BHARU, — The Kelantan State Health Department (JKNK) has issued 82 notices with a compound value of RM18,309 for smoking offences committed at eateries from Jan 1 to 3, said its director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin.
“Of the total, 11 notices were offences committed by teenagers while 12 others involved electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) and vape smokers.
He said 14 notices with a compound value of RM3,500 were issued to owners of food premises for failing to display no-smoking signs and two notices were for providing smoking facilities.
“Those issued with notices for smoking at eateries are fined RM250. For the first offence, the compound may be reduced to RM150, if the payment is made at any district health office within one month from the notice date,” he told reporters after officiating the Ultron Malaysia Kota Bharu New Year Nite Run 2020 and Kelantan Walk Programme, here tonight.
He said for a second offence, no reduction will be given as the RM250 fine will have to be paid in full adding that offenders would be fined RM350 for the third and subsequent offences.
He said since Jan 1, checks had been conducted on 793 premises involving 200 officers.
